Change in score on the fatigue assessment scale (FAS) after 12 weeks
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Sarcoidosis is a chronic, multisystem disorder with often major impact on quality of life (QoL). Fatigue has been reported as most burdensome and frequent symptom in sarcoidosis. The cause of sarcoidosis-associated fatigue is not known and is supposed to be multifactorial. Fatigue in sarcoidosis is associated with distress, anxiety and depressive symptoms. Besides, there may be a potential role of underlying chronic inflammation in fatigue, though this has not been convincingly established yet. The Dutch Helen Dowling Institute developed an online mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (eMBCT), a web-based and psychologist guided intervention, for treatment of fatigue in patients with chronic diseases. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effect of a 12-week eMBCT on fatigue, stress and QoL in sarcoidosis patients. This will be assessed with subjective (patient-reported outcomes) and objective outcomes (hair cortisol levels).
