Uitkomstmaten
Primaire uitkomstmaten
Ventilator settings, respiratory parameters and bloodgas values during surgery. Number of airway associated events including: the need for tube manipulation, tube exchange, need for apnea. Number of adverse events including: tube dislocation, tube obstruction in the operating room.
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Airway management for tracheal surgery in patients with tracheal stenosis can be challenging. First, intubation through the stenosis is only possible with small endotracheal tubes and even then intubation can be traumatic. Thus the smaller the tube the less traumatic is the intubation. Otherwise ventilation of adults through small tubes can result in high peak pressures, air trapping and hypoventilation. To make surgery to the trachea possible, periods of apnea, tracheal tube manipulation and cross surgical field intubation are often necessary. Recently, flow controlled ventilation as provided by the Evone ventilator makes it possible to ventilate through a narrow-bore triple lumen tube, with an outer diameter of 4,4 mm (Tritube). This method can facilitate tracheal surgery without tracheal tube manipulation and exchange. The objective of this study is to evaluate the use of Tritube and flow controlled ventilation with Evone, during tracheal surgery.
