Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Everyday interactions with adolescent children can be challenging for parents. Previous research provides evidence for the effectiveness of the Dutch program "Praten met Kinderen" to improve observed parental communication skills and self-reported parenting behavior. The present study tests whether an online version of the program is non-inferior to the original face-to-face group program. Community sample parents with children age 10-15 years will be recruited and randomized to the online or face-to-face program. Parents will complete questionnaires at baseline and immediately after the program about parenting-related cognitions (i.e., parental sense of competence and parenting stress), about their parenting behavior (i.e., laxness, overreactivity, and verbosity), and about their child's behavior (i.e., behavioral and emotional strengths and difficulties). Children will complete questionnaires at baseline and immediately after the program about parenting behavior (i.e., laxness, overreactivity, and verbosity), and their own behavior (i.e., behavioral and emotional strengths and difficulties).
