Background summary
Fertility is reduced in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Furthermore,
female RA patients reach menopause at a younger age. Therefore, we hypothesize
that the ovarian reserve, as measured by serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)
levels, is lower in female RA patients than in controls from the general
population. Furthermore, we hypothesize that the decline in serum AMH levels in
female RA patients is related to RA disease characteristics and the use of
methotrexate.
Study objective
The objective of this study is to investigate the intra-individual change in
AMH levels over several years in female RA patients.
Study design
Observational longitudinal study
Study burden and risks
Patients will be visited at home once. Serum samples will be drawn (4 mL per
patient) and a short questionnaire with questions about the menstrual period
and medication use will be completed.
