A great amount of medical research is performed in The Netherlands. This is research to prevent or treat diseases. Research participants (or 'human subjects') are very important to medical research. Without their participation, we will not get new medicines or treatments. Both healthy people and patients can volunteer in medical research. Examples of medical research are:
- research to find out more about a disease;
- research to find new treatments;
- research to compare treatments.

About this website
On this website you will find the Overview of medical research in the Netherlands (OMON). This overview is managed by the Dutch government and will be updated frequently.
Using OMON, you can find information on all the medical research in The Netherlands. You can find information on for instance:
- research that is about to start;
- research that has started;
- research that has finished.
For research that is about to start or has already started, it describes whether research participants are still being recruited. It also shows whether participants need to fulfil certain criteria. An example of such a criterium is age. For example, sometimes only participants under 65 are being recruited. If you want to participate in a clinical study, you can always talk to your doctor about it.
Please note that information may be outdated (such as 'Recruitment status'). Therefore, when in doubt, always check with the submitting party of a study what the current status is. Or ask your doctor to get in touch with the submitting party. The submitting party of a study is responsible for the data. Contact details can be found for each study under 'Contacts'.
